HOLY MOLY… Election Day is a week away!! Two races that will decide who runs the Senate are in Texas and Maine, and in both, the Republican is behind or tied.
Texas Democrats haven’t won a statewide race since 1994. Maine hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1988. This year we have a real chance to win both, and if we do, the MAGA majority is in serious trouble.
Texas: Paxton is running out of road
James Talarico has led Ken Paxton in poll after poll this month. Texas Public Opinion Research has him up 51 to 47. Cook Political Report’s battleground poll has him up 49 to 44. Emerson has him ahead 48 to 46. The polling average puts him up a point or two.
The Fox News poll has it tied at 49, and we should take that seriously. Paxton is still deeply unpopular, though. In that same poll, 58 percent of Texans see him unfavorably. Independents are breaking for Talarico, 66 to 28, in the TPOR poll.
Republicans know they’re in trouble. More than $200 million has gone into Paxton’s corner. Elon Musk put $10 million into a single pro-Paxton super PAC. Trump is flying in to rally for him. That’s how you defend a seat you’re afraid of losing.
Meanwhile, Texans are voting early in record numbers. Every one of those ballots matters, because a race this close will come down to who actually shows up.
Maine: Collins is in the fight of her career
Susan Collins has been in the Senate for 30 years, and Mainers are tired of it. In the Washington Post poll, 52 percent said her long tenure is a bad thing. In the Fox News poll, 53 percent said they’re worried she votes with Trump too often, in a state where 62 percent disapprove of him.
Troy Jackson, a fifth-generation logger and former state Senate president, leads in the polling average. The newest Marist poll puts him at 49, up from 47. Fox has it tied at 49.
Collins has beaten her polls before. We all remember 2020. So nobody gets to relax because Jackson is a couple of points ahead.
What’s at stake
Republicans hold the Senate 53-47. Flip Texas and Maine, add North Carolina, Ohio and Alaska, hold our own seats, and the MAGA majority is gone. No more rubber stamp for Trump. No more cover for an agenda that’s driven up what we pay for groceries, gas and health care.
And the regime knows it. That’s why they’re working so hard to keep people from voting. They’d rather pick their voters than let voters pick them.
The answer is turnout so big the result is beyond question. Make it too big to rig!
